Sacramento River Trout Fishing Report
The wild rainbow trout fishing on the Sacramento river has been excellent this week and weekend. May is a very good time, if not, one of the best times to trout fish on the Sacramento River. River flows are dropping to 9500 cfs from 10,000cfs so anglers can expect little change in the good fishing right now. Both conventional and fly fishing on the lower Sacramento river is going very well right now as reported by Sacramento River fishing guides. Side drifting small hand tied glo bugs in various egg color combos is best from Red Bluff, Ca upriver to Redding/Anderson as reported by Sacramento river trout guides. Small puffballs with a small piece of Pautzkes natural cured roe are also bringing in nice trout daily. Hooking and releasing 30 to 50 wild rainbow trout is common daily for these hard fighting wild bows while out with guide Dave Jacobs of Professional Guide Service. Backtrolling small Brads Wee wiggler lures in silver, gold or copper color combos for more nice sized trout are also working. Most trout are one to three pounds with four and five pound trout being a possibility on every outing as reported by Sacramento River trout guides. Now is the time to come trout fishing on the Sacramento River fishing both conventional and fly gear. American shad are moving upriver now and will be in large numbers in the upper river soon. SACRAMENTO RIVER 2012 SALMON SEASON
The 2012 Sacramento River salmon season is opening on July 16, 2012 and will run through mid December. The first run Fall salmon will start in mid July and go through October. All of the Fall run dates do book up very fast but we are able to accommodate large groups for the Sacramento River salmon runs. The Sacramento River is expecting a large return of king salmon in 2012 and is looking to be one of the largest returns in many seasons. The late Fall salmon season will start in late October and run through mid December as reported by Sacramento River salmon fishing guides.
